In terms of Sections 4(1)(b) and 4(2) of the Right to Information Act, 2005, the general public is informed that Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology (SLIET), Longowal, District Sangrur, Punjab, India has been established by the Government of India and is controlled by a society registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. His Excellency the Governor of Punjab is the President of SLIET Society.

The Institute provides technical education in emerging areas of Engineering & Technology. It caters to the technical manpower requirements at various levels by adopting a concept of modular system in imparting technical education with emphasis on practical training in industry. Institute was set up in 1989 in the memory of Late Sant Harchand Singh Ji Longowal and is fully funded by Ministry of Human Resource & Development, Government of India, New Delhi.

The Institute offers modular programmes in Engineering & Technology viz. Certificate, Diploma, Degree and Post-graduate as well as Doctor of Philosophy programmes in engineering and technology. The programmes in the Institute provide both lateral entry and vertical mobility at Certificate, Diploma and Degree levels of education, besides non-formal education and entrepreneurship development programmes. The Institute has conferred the status of Deemed-to-be-University w.e.f. April 10, 2007.The Institute has its own Memorandum of Association, rules of business and bye-laws. Apart from SLIET Society, the Institute has a governing body viz. Board of Management which comprises the Chairman, two Deans of the Institute, two members from Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi (one from Technical Bureau and one from Integrated Finance Division), Govt. of India, two members from Government of Punjab, one member from All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi, One member from University Grants Commission, three teachers of the Institute (Professor, Assistant Professor, Lecturer) by rotation according to seniority, One eminent Scientist/ Technologist/Educationist nominated by the President of the Society, One Alumnus of the Institute nominated by the Board of Management and Director, SLIET is Member Secretary. The other authorities of the Institute are Finance Committee for financial matters, Academic Council/Senate for academic matters, Building and Works committee for construction/repair activities/campus development.Presently, Shri Jagdish Rai Singal, Chairman Eastman Auto and Power Limited and Eastman Group, is looking after the work of Chairman, Board of Management and Prof. Shailendra Jain is the Director and Chief Academic and Executive Officer of the Institute.The academic work of the Institute is carried out by the faculty which is supported by technical and administrative supporting staff. The Institute consists of various departments and sections. The Head of each department is responsible for the overall management of the department. They are also responsible to supervise the faculty and staff of their respective departments. The administrative department consists of several sections which are headed by the Section Incharges. They are responsible to supervise and manage the work of their respective sections.The Institute is following its own rules as well as Government of India rules in service matters. The Institute has developed its own website www.sliet.ac.in. All academic as well as administrative information is provided on the Institute website. (viii) Statement of the boards, councils, committees and other bodies consisting as its part or for the purpose of its advice, and as to whether meetings of those boards, councils, committees and other bodies are open to the public, or the minutes of such meeting are accessible for public
(ix) A directory of its officers and employees
(x) Monthly remuneration received by each of its officers and employees including the system of compensation as provided in its regulations
(xi) Budget allocated to each of its agency, indicating the particulars of all plans, proposed expenditure and reports on disbursements, made
(xii) Manner of execution of subsidy programmes including the amounts allocated and the details of beneficiaries of such programmes
(xiii) Particulars of recipients of concessions, permits or authorizations granted by it
(xiv) Details in respect of the information available to or held by it reduced in an electronics form
(xv) Particulars of facilities available to citizens for obtaining information, including the work hours of a library or reading room, if maintained for public use
(xvi) Names, designation and other particulars of the Public Information Officers
